Let’s address the root cause of Hamas recent attack on Israel
In the Name of God
Let’s address the root cause of Hamas recent attack (Operation Al-Aqsa Storm) on Israel
The systematic oppression and ongoing brutal violence against Palestinians is the root cause of what is presently taking place in Israel and Palestine. In fact, what preceded the war between Israel and Gaza was not peace-it was constant “genocide and apartheid” made invisible by the mainstream media owned or influenced by Zionists and their allies.
As Palestinian poet Remi Kanazi states, “What Israelis experienced for a few hours, Palestinians have been enduring for 75 years.” And as Israeli journalist Haggai Matar acknowledges, “The dread Israelis are feeling right now, myself included, is a sliver of what Palestinians have been feeling on a daily basis under the decades-long military regime in the West Bank, and under the siege and repeated assaults on Gaza.”
Peter Koenig’s comments on Israel prime minister’s recent remarks further clarify the situation: “ the same day of Hamas’ Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanya, declared war on Palestine – apparently totally ignoring that the war has already been going on for the last 70 years, ever and gradually increasing on severity and intensity. Netanyahu also gave “green light” to IDF to shoot Palestinians point blank – as if this was different from what the IDF has been doing before. Also, remarkably, Netanyahu said that this was going to be a long war. Again, ignoring that Israel has been at war with Palestine almost from day one of Israel’s creation. The only difference maybe that now the war was officially declared. Before, it was a war of attrition – slow destruction of Palestine’s resistance and moral.”
Thus Hamas attack was the inevitable consequence of long-standing siege, brutal oppression, continuous aggression, settler violence, and numerous abhorrent crimes against the Palestinians in general, and the people in Gaza in particular. It is obvious that people living under apartheid conditions will eventually revolt. As Ashrawi observes, what Hamas did “is like prisoners breaking out of their prison”. It is noteworthy that Hamas had warned the Zionists several times and asked them to stop the violence.
Along with Britain and other allies, the U.S. government is complicit in almost all cases of crime against Palestinians as it has been the main supporter of Israel for decades. As Noam Chomsky rightly maintains, “without US aid, Israel wouldn’t be killing Palestinians En Masse.”
