The US invasion of Venezuela would mean the defeat of the Global South.

The US military campaign in the Caribbean, repeated military attacks on boats, and threatening the Venezuelan, and more recently Colombian, government have nothing to do with drugs or terrorism. It certainly violates the basic principles of international law and represents unjustified interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states.

There is now ample evidence (consider the size and nature of the US military build-up near Venezuelan territories and the recurring provocative moves) to indicate that the Trump administration intends to invade Venezuela, assassinate President Nicolás Maduro, and grab the huge Venezuelan oil reserve.

However, Trump will not stop there!

If the United States succeeds in this campaign, they will continue to topple all the independent non-aligned governments in Latin America one by one and destroy the whole Bolivarian resistance in the region. Most probably, they will repeat the strategies (not so successful, though) they used against the resistance groups in the Middle East.

In fact, the United States has a grand goal behind the military campaign in the Caribbean, and that for sure includes gaining more access to and increasing misuse of the diverse resources in the Global South and maintaining an upper hand against the BRICS, particularly, containing China that has managed to secure its multi-layered presence in Latin America. 

There are also personal motives behind Trump’s aggressive moves in Latin America. After all, he is a greedy businessman and war is business in the capitalist world, the same way peace is bad for business! It is also clear that other military contractors are behind this and almost all US and allies’ wars and aggressions against independent nations in Latin America, the Middle East, and beyond.

It is, therefore, urgent that all parties and factions in Venezuela ignore their differences for a while and jointly defend their country against this real threat. Specifically, the opposition groups should be wary of any promise of support from the US and other foreign states or groups. The US is not trustworthy and, as history indicates, has never been loyal to any ally.

It is also important that not only Latin American states, but also all nations in the global south, unite against the rogue government of the United States before it is too late. In addition, any individual who has a voice, particularly scholars and celebrities, should take effective action to prevent the imminent catastrophe threatening Latin America and the ensuing consequences worldwide.
